Healing Mother Earth with Sheep
Welcome to our little piece of Heaven on Earth! We regeneratively raise our Katahdin sheep using rotational grazing methods.
Sustainable Practices
At Emerald Ley, we implement regenerative agriculture techniques that promote soil health and biodiversity. Our rotational grazing system allows our Katahdin sheep to thrive while enhancing the environment for all lifeforms.
Healthy Flock
We prioritize the well-being of our sheep by providing free choice minerals and clean forage as they move to new grass throughout the growing seasons. This ensures our flock remains healthy and productive throughout the year.
Lambing in Spring
We time our breeding to ensure lambs are born on clean pasture in the spring when fresh grass is in abundance. Our ewes give birth late April through early May.
Lambs for Sale
Our lambs are available for purchase in early August. Contact us if you are looking to start your own flock, or you are looking for a healthy source of market lambs! We are located near Gambier, Ohio.
What are Katahdin sheep?
Katahdin sheep are a breed known for their hardiness and adaptability. They thrive in various climates and are raised primarily for meat production. They are a hair breed that shed naturally and therefore do not require yearly shearing.
How does rotational grazing benefit the farm?
Rotational grazing allows for better pasture management, promotes healthy grass growth by preventing overgrazing, reduces soil erosion, allows sheep to graze on fresh pasture while giving previously grazed areas time to recover. It also greatly reduces the possibility of parasite infestation, enhances soil fertility, and supports biodiversity.
What minerals do you provide for your sheep?
We offer a selection of over 15 free choice minerals that are essential for the health and well-being of our sheep. These minerals help improve their immune system, reproductive health, and overall vitality, ensuring a thriving flock.
